Green Lantern is the alias for several heroes from the DC Comics universe, empowered by a ring that grants them the ability to manifest constructs of green energy.
The first Green Lantern, Alan Scott, debuted in *All-American Comics* #16 (July 1940). Scott's power originated from a magical Starheart, a sentient fragment of a magical meteorite. Later, a more cosmic version of Green Lantern was introduced.
Hal Jordan, a test pilot, is the most well-known Green Lantern and a prominent member of the Green Lantern Corps, an intergalactic police force wielding power rings fueled by willpower. The Lantern Corps are guardians of their designated sectors of the universe. Other notable human Green Lanterns include John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and Kyle Rayner, all representing Earth in the wider Lantern Corps.
